A small town in the Voronezh region was named after Count Alexander Buturlin, who began his military career and service under Peter I. Later, he distinguished himself during the reign of Elizabeth Petrovna, for which he received these lands in 1740.

At that time, there were no settlements here, and residents had to be brought in from other regions. Many settlers came from Left-Bank Ukraine, where the count had previously held the position of chief governor. The newly formed sloboda became the private property of the Buturlin family for four generations, and in 1842, the serfs collectively bought their freedom for a significant sum.

The local history exhibition tells about all these interesting facts and subsequent periods in the history of Buturlinovka. It is located in an old mansion of merchant Maslyakov, built in the early last century. The building itself is remarkable, having preserved its original appearance. The owner had artistic taste: the facade is adorned with semi-columns, the cornice is supported by decorative brackets, and the windows have beautiful framing.

The museum includes six halls dedicated to various historical eras and is filled with documents and authentic exhibits, such as photographs, paintings, and household items. Visitors will be interested in sections dedicated to the Civil War and the Great Patriotic War. During those times, active hostilities took place here, and headquarters of the Red Army were located. During the battles with the White Guards on Communist Street, future Marshal Tukhachevsky and commander Yakir stopped here. In this remote part of Russia, curious tourists will find much more interesting and captivating.
