Evgeny Iosifovich Bukovetsky (1866, 1948) was a renowned portrait artist. He was born on December 17, 1866. He received his education at the Odessa Real School of St. Peter and Paul, as well as at the Drawing School of the Odessa Society of Fine Arts, where his mentors were G. A. Ladyzhensky and K. K. Kostandi. After a year of study at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, Bukovetsky went to Europe, where he visited museums in Paris and Munich and honed his painting skills with Western masters, including classes at the Académie Julian in Paris.

Upon returning to Odessa in 1891, he actively participated in exhibitions of Southern Russian artists. From the early 1890s, his works were exhibited at traveling exhibitions in Moscow and St. Petersburg. In 1894, together with P. A. Nilus, he developed the charter of the Society of Southern Russian Artists.

In 1919, Bukovetsky opened an art studio in his home on Knyazheskaya Street, 27, but it lasted only a short time. In the 1920s, he became one of the initiators of the creation of the art Society named after K. Kostandi. In 1937, he began teaching at the Odessa Art School.

Evgeny Iosifovich passed away on July 27, 1948, and was buried at the Second Christian Cemetery in Odessa. His works can be seen in the Odessa Art Museum, the Kherson Art Museum named after Shovkunenko, the Vinnytsia Art Museum, the Zaporizhzhia Art Museum, the National Art Museum of Ukraine, and in private collections.
