The "Austin" is a family of machine-gun armored vehicles developed by the British company "Austin" on behalf of the Russian Empire and produced between 1914 and 1917. These armored vehicles, released in three main modifications, became the most numerous in the Russian Imperial Army during World War I. They were also actively used by various sides in the Russian Civil War.

In 1914, Austin Motor became a public company, and with the onset of World War I, its turnover significantly increased. The company fulfilled government orders for the production of airplanes, guns, trucks, ambulances, and searchlight installations. Armored vehicles for the Russian Imperial Army held a special place among these orders. In September 1914, an order was placed for 48 vehicles equipped with vertical and horizontal armor, two independent rotating turrets with machine guns, and bullet-resistant tires filled with a special compound. The first combat experience revealed deficiencies in the transmission and weak armor protection. These armored vehicles were modified at the Putilov factory in Petrograd, and later their production was completely transferred from the UK to Russia. By 1917, the Russian army had about 400 of these armored vehicles, half of which were produced in Russia.
