The Borovaya Forest Experimental Station named after A. P. Tolsky was founded in 1903 as an experimental forestry. The idea of creating this facility in the Buzuluk Forest belonged to the famous Russian forester, Professor G. F. Morozov.

Based on the Buzuluk Forest, the Buzuluk State Nature Reserve was established, which existed until 1948.

After the war, priorities changed. Economic benefit came to the forefront, overshadowing aesthetic and environmental values. The unique pine was viewed as a source of timber, and loggers arrived in the forest. Following them, geologists appeared, discovering oil and gas reserves here.
