Bolshigneushevsky Kazan Monastery

25 km from the ancient city of Rylsk, in the center of the village of Bolshigneushevo in the Kursk region, along the banks of the Amonka River, there is a women's monastery dedicated to the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God. In 1827, a tall wooden church was built and consecrated in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, which was associated with two dessiatinas of land. Archives from St. Petersburg indicate that a Sunday school operated at the church. The church stood until 1926, when, by order of local authorities, it was partially destroyed and converted into a village school. During the Great Patriotic War, the building was used as headquarters, a dining room, and a stable, and after the war, it again became a school.

In 1992, a new school was built in the village, and the old building was handed over to the Kursk Diocese for a church. In 1996, Archimandrite Hippolyt (Khalin), the abbot of the Rylsk St. Nicholas Men's Monastery, appealed to the diocese with a request to reconstruct the building for a parish church and create a women's skete. Having received the blessing of Metropolitan Juvenaly (Tarasov), Archimandrite Hippolyt, along with the first inhabitants and with the support of benefactors and pilgrims, began restoration work. Soon the church was renovated, the territory was arranged, and an economy was established.

On December 9, 1999, by the decree of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church and at the request of Metropolitan Juvenaly, the skete became an independent women's monastery. Since 2008, thanks to the generous help of benefactors, the monastery has significantly transformed: new buildings have appeared, such as a sisterhood building, a pilgrimage courtyard, a dairy workshop, the monastery fence has been updated, and a retaining wall has been installed. The monastery has a modern livestock farm and greenhouses, and reconstruction of the church in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God is underway.

Along with the construction of new buildings, the number of relics in the church is increasing, and its decoration continues. In harmony with the wooden carved iconostasis, Athos and Jerusalem icons, consecrated from miraculous icons, are placed. A great gift for the sisters and pilgrims was a copy of the icon of the Mother of God "Consolation and Comfort," blessed by the abbot of the Vatopedi Monastery, Archimandrite Ephraim. The altar is adorned with gold, and along the walls of the church are Athos stasidia.

The monastery houses many relics of saints, including the recently added relics of the Glinsk Holy Fathers, the Great Martyr Catherine, and other saints. A particle of the Life-Giving Cross of the Lord has been brought from Jerusalem.

There are three altars in the church: of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, and St. John of Rylsk. The monastery also has two healing springs: one in honor of the Nativity of the Mother of God, and the other, behind the monastery cemetery, consecrated in the name of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God. Pilgrims at the nearby spring are struck by the Kazan icon, which has grown into the texture of the wood.

In November 2013, on the eve of the feast day, the sisters of the monastery joyfully welcomed the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, brought from Mount Athos as a gift to the monastery from the abbot of the Vatopedi Monastery, Archimandrite Ephraim, created by the best Athos icon painters.
