February 7 marks the memory of the holy martyr Vladimir, Metropolitan of Kiev and Galicia.

In the photograph, Metropolitan Vladimir is depicted with the Orders of Saint Vladimir 3rd class and Saint Anna 1st class, the star of the Order of Saint Anna, the medal "In Memory of the Coronation of Emperor Nicholas II", a panagia, a cross with precious stones on his klobuk, as well as the insignia of the Society for the Restoration of Christianity in the Caucasus and the Imperial Palestinian Orthodox Society.

Metropolitan Vladimir, in the world Vasily Nikiforovich Bogoavlensky (1848-1918), held the positions of Metropolitan of Kiev and Galicia (1915-1918), Saint Petersburg and Ladoga (1912-1915), and Moscow and Kolomna (1898-1912). Since November 1912, he was the presiding member of the Holy Synod and the only hierarch of the Orthodox Russian Church during the synodal period who consistently headed all three metropolitan sees in the Russian Empire.

On February 6, 1918, before the Liturgy, Metropolitan Vladimir served the Akathist to the Dormition of the Mother of God in the Dormition Cathedral of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. Those present noted that on that day he read the Akathist with special fervor, as if sensing what was to come.

On February 7, armed men burst into the chambers of Metropolitan Vladimir. Although the Red Terror against clergy had not yet begun, the bishop understood that he was being led to execution. Before leaving, he blessed his cell attendant, kissed him, and, shaking his hand, said: "Farewell, Philip!" The attendant recalled that the metropolitan was calm, as if going to the Liturgy. He blessed everyone in the house with the words: "Farewell!" He was taken out to the Lavra courtyard and led to the gates of the monastery. Near the Great Lavra Church, the soldiers lit cigarettes, and the metropolitan began to pray in front of the entrance to the temple. When he reached the gates of the Lavra, he turned to the icon of Saint Nicholas, crossed himself, and bowed.

The next morning, pilgrims heading to the Lavra discovered the body of Metropolitan Vladimir, disfigured by stab and gunshot wounds.
