The Mother of God Birth Monastery in Pridorozhny

The Vladimir women's community, now an archbishop's residence in the village of Pridorozhny, began its activities several years before its official registration. It was founded by nun Georgiya, the rassophore novice Ekaterina Stepanovna Kulikova, later nun Evnikiya, and rassophore novice Alexandra Mikhailovna Tagunova, daughter of the second guild merchant from Murom, Mikhail Tagunov. Alexandra owned 55 desyatinas of land, which bordered the lands of the Dmitrovsky pogost and became the territorial foundation of the community.

In 1891, thanks to the efforts of donors and sisters, a two-story wooden residential building with 14 cells was constructed, covered with iron. The house was surrounded by a fence, and in its eastern part, a room was arranged for the house church in honor of the Vladimir icon of the Mother of God, consecrated on May 27, 1897. From that year, a wooden bell tower with eight bells was built near the church. Between 1895 and 1900, two wooden buildings were constructed, and in 1901, a wooden house for the priest was built. Even before the community's registration, in 1893, 14 sisters of different ages lived in the first house, participating in church singing and reading during services at the church of the Dmitrovsky pogost.

The restoration of the church began in 2008. By spring 2009, the church was covered with galvanized roofs, a copper dome with a gilded cross was installed, and lost architectural elements were restored. The church was consecrated on November 12, 2011, by Archbishop Evlogiy of Vladimir and Suzdal in the presence of the abbot of the Mother of God Birth Monastery in Vladimir, Archimandrite Nil Sychev, and the clergy of the Kameshkovsky and Murom deaneries.

On February 6, 2016, an icon of the Jerusalem Mother of God from Mount Athos, created by Athos masters, was delivered to the residence. It was gifted to the Vladimir Metropolis by the monks of the Holy Panteleimon Russian Monastery. The Metropolitan of Vladimir and Suzdal decided to transfer the icon to the Mother of God Birth residence and place it in the church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos. To the sound of bells and the singing of the sisters of the monastery, the icon was solemnly brought into the church, accompanied by the clergy of the Vladimir Metropolis: it was carried by two archbishops, Metropolitan Evlogiy of Vladimir and Suzdal and Bishop Nil Sychev of Murom and Vyazniki. Thus, the Queen of Heaven expressed her favor towards the efforts to revive the monastery and the church, honoring this place with Her image, known as the Jerusalem icon, created by the inhabitants of the Holy Mountain of Athos.
