The buildings of the former charity house in Penza continue to serve the cause of mercy, now as the infectious disease hospital 'KIM' (Committee of International Youth), well known to the city's residents.

Maria Mikhailovna realized the idea of creating the charity house, following the spiritual testament of her husband, Alexander Grigorievich. Driven by compassion for the elderly, poor, and helpless, he renounced 11 estates in various provinces of Russia to build a charity house in Penza. Alexander Grigorievich wanted this institution to provide shelter for the elderly, sick, and disabled until the end of their days, regardless of their faith and social status. He entrusted the management of the estates to his wife, Maria Mikhailovna.

Some of the estates bequeathed by Kiselev were mortgaged. Only in 1852, five years after his death, were all debts settled, and Maria Mikhailovna acquired a large estate in Penza, located on Upper Peshaya and Dvoryanskaya streets (now Kuibyshev and Krasnaya streets). She developed a draft of the Regulations for the charity house, which was approved in 1856, and construction began.

The official opening of the charity house took place on September 13, 1859, when a Divine Liturgy was held in the presence of Archbishop Varlaam of Penza and Saransk and representatives of the highest provincial authorities. Empress Alexandra Feodorovna took the charity house under her patronage and expressed her gratitude and favor to Maria Mikhailovna.

Until 1918, when the new government liquidated the guardianship over the charity house, it came under the management of the Penza Council of Workers', Soldiers', and Peasants' Deputies. Throughout the years of the charity house's existence, Maria Mikhailovna Kiseleva improved and expanded it. She donated 104 thousand rubles in silver for the institution. If at the opening there were 70 residents in the charity house, after 20 years their number increased to 140. All profits from the farms and agriculture were directed to the needs of the charity house, with no expense spared. The annual costs for maintenance, heating, and lighting amounted to 4 thousand rubles in silver, and when the number of residents increased, an additional 100 thousand rubles was donated. Another building with a temple of Saint Great Martyr and Healer Panteleimon was constructed. The Penza charity house provided shelter for thousands of men and women; hundreds of people received monetary assistance and food from it.
