At the beginning of Shabolovka, opposite the Apakov tram depot, a large building with a dome and many narrow windows stands out. It was built as a refuge for the elderly, and its current owners continue to engage in similar activities.

The Tarasov family was well-known in Moscow in the mid-19th century. In 1865, Stepan Alexeyevich, who served in the office of the Moscow chief of police, received hereditary nobility. He later became an actual state councilor, was elected several times as a city councilor and honorary justice of the peace, and in 1885 was the mayor of Moscow. His widow bequeathed 900,000 rubles to establish a charitable institution. After her death in 1911, the City Shelter named after S.A. and A.P. Tarasov was built on Shabolovka. The architect was Alexander Ivanovich Roop, known for his projects of the Sokolniki Hospital and the Gas Plant on Lower Susalny Lane.

The facade of the building is executed in the Byzantine style: narrow windows on the third floor, a dome in the center, and a protruding volume of the central risalit. There are also elements of pseudo-Russian style, such as semi-columns at the entrance, kokoshniks, and crenellated decorations. In the middle part of the building was a home church consecrated in 1912 in the name of the Resurrection of Christ. There were two chapels dedicated to the patron saints of the founders, Archdeacon Stephen and Saints Joachim and Anna. The elongated windows facing Shabolovka mark the altar of the church with adjacent altars of the chapels. Inside, the church was painted, had an oak iconostasis, and in the garden, there was a bell tower with six bells.

The charter of the shelter is notable for its wording that it is intended for "intelligent persons, as well as those who have not lived in poverty, but in a certain comfort."

After the revolution, the building became the "Radychev Invalid Home," and in 1923, the residents managed to close the home church, turning it into a club. Later, the institution was renamed the "Rest House for Veterans of the Revolution named after Ilyich." The rest house then moved to Peredelkino, and the building was transferred to the Ministry of Social Welfare of the RSFSR. Today, it houses the Pension Fund of Russia. The exterior of the building has hardly changed, the dome of the former church has been preserved, although there is no cross on it. The interior space has been significantly restructured, and the former garden has changed.
