The Biysk Local History Museum named after V. V. Bianki invites visitors to explore the history and nature of the Altai Mountains. Founded in 1920 based on the collection of the Zemstvo administration and the natural history cabinet of the Altai People's University, the museum has borne the name of the writer V. V. Bianki since 1967, known for his vivid descriptions of animals and nature in children's literature.

This museum is considered the first public museum in Siberia and regularly organizes various events. Among them are lectures with excursions dedicated to, for example, the construction of bridges on the Chuysky Tract, tea-drinking traditions, and petroglyphs. Children's programs are also conducted, introducing kids to the wildlife of Altai, and a quest called "Journey through the Museum of the Chuysky Tract," where participants solve tasks while studying geography, biology, and history. The museum organizes field trips around Biysk, including tram rides through the old streets and trips to the petroglyphs.

The local history museum includes several departments located in different parts of the city. The Chuysky Tract Museum is situated in the former house of merchant Varvinsky at 42 Sovetskaya Street. This brick two-story building is an architectural monument and the historical beginning of the tract. In front of it stands a symbolic monument "Zero Kilometer of the Chuysky Tract." Previously, the Chuysky Tract was a simple pack trail, but over time it became an important route for international trade with China and Mongolia. Today, it is the federal highway R-256, leading to the border with Mongolia, and one of the most picturesque roads, included in 2010 by National Geographic in the list of the 10 most beautiful roads in the world.

The historical department is located in the Assanova mansion at 134 Lenin Street. It introduces visitors to the history of Altai, the life and creativity of the local population in different eras, and tells about the mysterious Shambhala. Among the exhibits are a sarcophagus, weapons from Scythian burial mounds, and cult items of Altai shamans. The department features collections of Buddhist sculpture and Chinese porcelain, as well as one of the best collections of wooden carvings in Siberia and over 300 petroglyphs. The museum's administration, the fund department, and the scientific library are also located here.

The exhibition hall at 36 Vasilieva Street opened in 1967 and regularly hosts exhibitions of works by local artists, photo exhibitions, and exhibitions of schoolchildren's and youth creativity. This is the only exhibition hall in Biysk.

The Museum of Internationalist Warriors is located at 109 Lenin Street. It works with youth and organizes events dedicated to the memory of fellow countrymen who died in military actions. The museum's collection includes more than 3,500 exhibits. It also houses the city committee of war veterans and the local public organization of the Afghanistan veterans' union.

The exhibition of the Chuysky Tract Museum attracts many tourists, as traveling along the Chuysky Tract is one of the most popular excursions. The museum is dedicated not only to the road but also to many related aspects: nature, history, and famous people. Materials about individuals whose creativity is connected with the Chuysky Tract, such as artist N. Roerich and writer V. Shukshin, are presented here. In the early 20th century, Shukshin participated in project work on the tract, and tools he used are exhibited here. Visitors can also see a map with natural sites along the Chuysky Tract that are under protection, compiled by artist and scientist V. Zaborovsky.

The museum offers several collections for viewing. The geological collection includes minerals from Altai: samples of ores, colored clays, Altai agate, jade, and other stones and minerals. The paleontological collection represents the ancient history of Altai, including more than 300 exhibits such as mammoth bones, woolly rhinoceros, and a complete skeleton of a bison. Unique fossils over 300 million years old are also stored here, allowing insights into ancient marine creatures that inhabited the Altai marine basin. The zoological collection introduces the fauna of the Altai Mountains, including typical species such as elk, maral, and bear, as well as red-listed species such as the Pallas's cat, Siberian ibex, and Altai snowcock. The botanical collection includes about 1,500 specimens, among which are herbarium collections gathered on the Ukok plateau.

The museum's halls feature two exhibitions: "Nature of Altai," showcasing the region's diversity, and "History of the Chuysky Tract," where visitors can see a model of the tract and historical information about it, including maps, wheels of Mongolian and Chinese carts, archaeological excavation results, and petroglyphs. The exhibition also includes models of cars and costumes of drivers from the last century. Special attention is given to the builders of the Chuysky Tract and the legends associated with its development, reflected in two halls: "Hall of the History of Road Construction" and "Hall of the History of the Motorization of the Road."
