In 1869, the Perm merchant Lyubimov acquired the Berezniki salt mines and a plot of land on Berezov Island from the treasury. On February 23, 1881, a contract was signed in Brussels between I.I. Lyubimov and soda industrialist Solvay for the construction of the first soda plant in Russia with a capacity of 6000 tons per year. The plant began operations on July 21, 1883, when the first pood of calcined soda was produced using the ammonia method.

On July 1, 1887, the partnership "Lyubimov and Co" was transformed into the joint-stock company "Lyubimov-Solvay" with full technical management by Solvay. In 1903, the plant acquired its own raw material base by purchasing a limestone quarry near the Vsevolodo-Vilva station in the Alexandrovsky district. After the revolution, the plant was nationalized and became state property.

On April 13, 1923, the plant was awarded the title "Bereznikovsky Exemplary Soda Plant named after V.I. Lenin" for its successful recovery after the civil war. In August 1929, construction of the Bereznikovsky Chemical Plant began, which included the soda plant from December 20, 1930. During the Great Patriotic War, the plant was the only supplier of soda in the country.

In 1949, construction of the Novosodovy plant began. In March 1950, the management of the under-construction plant was established, and in December 1954, the Novosodovy and Starosodovy plants merged. The plant was constantly improved, renovations were carried out, equipment was replaced, new productions such as chlorobenzene and the "Antimole" agent were launched, and new facilities were built.

In 1968-1969, the old plant ceased to exist, and a new soda production with a capacity of 400,000 tons per year was launched. In 1980, the development of a new limestone deposit on the Chanyva River with reserves of 370 million tons began, as well as the construction of a road and a railway branch.

Since 1999, the Open Joint-Stock Company "Bereznikovsky Soda Plant" has been operating and developing steadily. It was created as a result of the reorganization of the oldest chemical enterprise OJSC "Soda" and continues the traditions of the first Russian soda plant founded in 1883. The enterprise has been recognized as socially responsible and dynamically developing, making a significant contribution to the industry.

In 2007, the plant's team was awarded a Certificate of Honor "For Valorous Labor in the Glory of the Fatherland" by the decision of the Presidium of the International Academy of Patronage. In May 2008, the enterprise was awarded the "Golden Quality Sign of the 3rd Millennium."
