The history of the museum began in 1989, when the head of the culture department of the district executive committee, V. D. Babushkina, proposed to create a museum. For this purpose, the building of the former Alexeyevskaya Church, built in 1805, was chosen. The last event in this building took place in 2012, after which the museum could only hold off-site events.

In 2015, the museum staff independently carried out cosmetic repairs on the third floor of the former PU-33, which was allocated for the museum. They organized permanent exhibitions in the halls: "Craftsmen's Room", "Hall of Memory", "Native Land", "Retro Hall", "Archaeology, Paleontology, SAVIN-I". Temporary exhibitions are held in the archive and lecture hall of the museum.

Currently, work is underway to open a new hall called "Peasant Life".
