The White Tower, part of the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin, is located in the foothill area between the Ivanovskaya and Zachatyevskaya Towers. Its construction dates back to the 16th century, and it was reconstructed in 1620. The modern name of the tower was given in the 19th century due to the preserved white stone cladding of the lower part of the facade. In the 17th and 18th centuries, it was called the Simeon Tower due to its proximity to the Simeon Monastery, which was located inside the Kremlin. The monastery church was destroyed in 1928, but in 2020, restoration began at the original site, preceded by archaeological research.

In 1889, the tower was converted into an archive for the Nizhny Novgorod Provincial Scientific Archive Commission, and the loopholes of the middle tiers were transformed into rectangular windows. In 1923, a fire occurred inside the tower, destroying archival documents, but the structure of the tower was not seriously damaged.

The tower is a round four-tiered structure. The original ceilings have not survived, but traces of early reconstruction were taken into account during restoration. Unlike other towers of the Kremlin, the roof of the White Tower is adorned with a gilded spire topped with a weather vane in the shape of a pennant.

The tower has two entrances: one at ground level and another at the second tier, as well as an entrance from the battle platform of the wall leading to the fourth tier via a separate staircase.

Among the round towers of the Kremlin, the White Tower stands out with numerous battle stoves and loopholes. The interior space of the second tier was changed from round to square, and loopholes were made in each of the three outer sides of the square. The third tier has a circular plan with seven rectangular niches and narrow loopholes in the walls. The upper tier of the tower repeats the characteristic system of large and small battle windows typical of the Kremlin.
