The Wrangel barons gained fame long before the Civil War and the emergence of Pyotr Nikolayevich Wrangel. They left a mark even in architecture, and one such monument is the Wrangel Tower in Königsberg. However, its creator was not the Russian general Wrangel or his parents, but the German field marshal Friedrich Heinrich Ernst Wrangel, a representative of another branch of this well-known family. Field Marshal Wrangel distinguished himself in numerous wars and even held the position of governor-general of Berlin, but we are more interested in the history of the tower's creation.

The construction of new fortifications in Königsberg began in the mid-19th century, and in 1853, a new tower was laid, named after the famous German military leader. The tower's design was developed by the outstanding German military engineer Ernst Ludwig von Aster, brother of the well-known writer. Thus, this defensive structure is connected with several famous names from the past. Alongside the Wrangel Tower, a tower named after another Prussian field marshal, Don, was built. Together, they occupied strategically important positions and played a significant role in the city's defense. However, by the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, these structures lost their relevance, and after the arrival of the Soviet army, they became part of the USSR.

Today, the tower retains its majestic appearance and, along with other fragments of defensive structures, is a cultural heritage site. Its name piques the interest of people familiar with history or simply those who have heard of the Wrangel family.
