Originally, the tower was named Nikitskaya, similar to the neighboring corner tower that faces the "Nikitsky End" area. In the wall adjacent to the tower, there is an arched passage leading to the internal staircase. This staircase leads to the embrasures on the Kremlin walls and to the entrance of the tower itself. Previously, the tower was equipped with three wooden gates, secured with iron hooks. Over time, they were removed due to lack of necessity, and now the passage in the tower is closed by a grating iron gate. The tower is located in the center of the southeastern wall of the Kremlin.
