The history of the Azov Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker goes back centuries. In 1442, a wealthy local resident named Narakhata, of Tatar origin but Orthodox by faith, founded the first Nicholas church here. She allocated part of her vacant land for the construction of the church, which, however, has long since disappeared.

Many years later, in the early last century, a house church in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker appeared on this site. Built of red brick, it lasted until the arrival of Soviet power, after which its owners were repressed, and the church itself was destroyed.

In our time, a decision was made to revive the parish of the Nicholas church, and in 2009, a new church building was consecrated. The Nicholas church was located in the old building of the parish of the Church in honor of the Azov Icon of the Mother of God, which received a new large church. Thus, the tradition of honoring St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, the patron of travelers and orphans, was renewed.
