Several years ago, during the construction of a bypass road near Zvenigorod, the work approached the former village of Ignatievskoye. The village itself had long since disappeared, with only an old cemetery as a reminder. Then something amazing happened. During the laying of the road, workers discovered strange finds. Arriving archaeologists began their research and realized that beneath their feet lay a true relic, a military arsenal from the era of Ivan the Terrible.

It later became clear that in the mid-16th century, the village of Ignatievskoye belonged to the Elizarov nobles. They were part of the 'chosen thousand,' the tsar's guard, and actively participated in the Livonian War and other military campaigns. The main finds were discovered in their house, in the cellar. The arsenal of that time included not only weapons but also household items such as saws, axes, tents, and cauldrons. All of this could be needed during long campaigns or when settling in a new place, as no one knew how long they would have to stay in foreign lands. The Elizarovs had iron hooks for hanging cauldrons over the fire, arrowheads, scabbards from sabers, links of chain mail, battle belts, and various household tools.

This set was meticulously organized: chains and hooks for carts and dishes were stored separately, weapons were also kept apart, and nearby, there was likely a place for tents and 'sleeping bags.' But the most valuable find, according to the archaeologists, is the ancient pointed helmets covered with leather plates, which have preserved remarkably well.

How could such a noble lord forget about this? The fact is that during the Time of Troubles, the village of Ignatievskoye was repeatedly subjected to attacks and devastation. The Elizarov house burned down and collapsed, hiding these immeasurable treasures in its cellar for several centuries.
