The building of the Krasnodar Regional Library named after Pushkin, executed in a strict classical style, faces a small square named after the great Russian poet. This square serves as a kind of facade in front of the main entrance to the library.

Unfortunately, the architectural ensemble of the square, located at the beginning of Krasnaya Street, was disrupted by the massive building of the regional court, which recently appeared on the left. Its concrete structure violated the fragile harmony of this cozy corner.

The history of the library's construction is quite interesting. In Yekaterinodar, Armenian merchant Boris Charachev actively traded in manufactured goods. One day he promised his wife to bring expensive gold jewelry from Paris.

However, his wise wife preferred another gift and asked him to build a school with that money. In 1916, renowned architects N. Kozo-Polyansky and L. Eberg erected the building of the Armenian School.

The funds for the construction were provided by Boris Vlassievich Charachev, and in gratitude, the Armenian community named the school after him, which was noted on the building's pediment. Boys and girls, predominantly of Armenian nationality, were educated here.

The halls of the school hosted public readings, amateur performances, and even sessions of the City Duma. Later, it housed an Armenian school that operated until the beginning of the Great Patriotic War.

It is worth noting that Charachev was a well-known patron of Yekaterinodar and a member of the society for combating poverty. He financed the Yekaterinodar Theater and its troupe, and during World War I, donated significant sums for the needs of the army.

Ironically, after the nationalization of his stores, Boris Charachev found himself in dire straits and begged for alms on the steps of the drama theater, where his former clerks would give him money.

In 1946, the Krasnodar City Executive Committee decided to transfer the building of the Armenian school to the Pushkin Library, which moved there after its restoration in 1956.

The reconstruction of the former Armenian School named after B.V. Charachev was carried out by architect A.N. Ozhiganov from 1951 to 1956. A monument to A.S. Pushkin was unveiled in June 1999.
