Archbishop's Stable Yard

Фото 1
The Archbishop's Stable Yard was located at the site of the modern building at 2 Maxim Gorky Street, where the "Tambov" hotel has been situated since 1959. The Kazan Monastery served as the residence of the Tambov bishop, so the auxiliary farm was located nearby since the late 18th century. During the Soviet era, the new five-story building on the Embankment became one of the most representative in the city. Interestingly, this construction preserved the historical continuity of Catherine's general plan from 1781, which began to be implemented during the governorship of the Tambov province and the poet G.R. Derzhavin. Old plans and photographs show that the configuration of the historical quarter was preserved during the construction of the hotel.
