Apraxin Yard, one of the oldest markets in St. Petersburg, today represents a place with a rich history and unique atmosphere. It is a site of cultural significance, a criminal quarter, and a beloved market for locals that continues to welcome visitors.

The market is located between Sadovaya and Lomonosovskaya streets, the banks of the Fontanka River, and Apraxin Lane. Originally, it consisted of two trading quarters that merged in 1833 by the decree of Nicholas I, forming the largest market in the city. Here, goods such as food, fabrics, footwear, and household items were actively traded.

A new chapter in the history of Apraxin Yard began in May 1862, when a fire destroyed much of the wooden and stone buildings. The market was decided to be restored, and the best architects of the time created its new appearance. A year later, it became a full-fledged trading quarter with streets, entertainment establishments, and its own temple.

In the 20th century, Apraxin Yard transformed into a large consignment market where everything could be bought, including antiques and cars. However, this attracted fraudsters and other lawbreakers, contributing to a deteriorating criminal situation. The old market buildings fell into disrepair, giving the place a grim character.

The market's atmosphere is particularly enhanced by the Money Honey club, which opened in the early 90s and became popular among rock and roll enthusiasts.

Since the early 2000s, the market has experienced three fires due to dense construction and garbage. The government attempted to reconstruct Apraxin Yard, planning to open a park and museum in its place, but all projects were never realized.

Despite this, Apraxin Yard continues to operate and attracts shoppers daily. Its grim atmosphere and spirit of the 90s continue to allure lovers of informal attractions.
