Information about the building

The name of the Guseva Polosa estate first appears in documents from the 18th century. However, the main house and park that have survived to this day date back to the early 20th century. In 1911, engineer Alexander Shumilin acquired the estate and, according to his design, a two-story mansion with a stone foundation and wooden walls was built.

The facades of the building were plastered and decorated with Corinthian columns, porticos, a triangular pediment, stucco work, and medallions with antique profiles. A semicircular veranda was added to the northern side of the house. The house was equipped with modern engineering systems for the time: central heating, sewage, ventilation, electric lighting, bathrooms, and warm water closets.

Alexander Shumilin also transformed the surrounding area. A retaining wall was built on the slopes leading to the ravine, and a terraced park was laid out. To the east of the estate, a rectangular pond was dug, which was lost in the 1920s. An alley was also planted, leading from the road to the northern facade of the building.

After the revolution, the estate was nationalized, and the house was used for various purposes. For example, in the 1960s, it housed a sanatorium. Since the late 1990s, the building has not been used and has gradually deteriorated.

The mansion is located on the territory of the Skolkovo Innovation Center.

Renovation and Restoration

The restoration of the historic Guseva Polosa estate was completed in 2021. Specialists restored the facades of the main house and its interior, as well as improved the adjacent territory. Window and door frames, as well as the staircase leading to the semicircular veranda at the northern facade, were recreated based on historical samples.

Inside the building, specialists restored the parquet flooring, plastered the walls, and covered them with fabric wallpaper. Historical doorways were uncovered on the second floor, and restoration work was carried out in the grand vestibule and on the walls along the staircase.

In the estate park, the retaining wall of the terrace was repaired, and the area around the house was improved.

A Reception House is planned to be opened in the former home of engineer Shumilin.
