It is amazing how the functions of some Moscow buildings change yet remain for decades. House No. 19/38, building 1 on Plotnikov Lane has a long historical name: "First City Anastasia Craft School (City Craft School named after Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna)." It was a charitable school for girls, named after the youngest daughter of Nicholas II. Now, this building houses a kindergarten, which indicates the preservation of its educational function.

The school was built in 1908 at the request of V.O. Garkavi and A.I. Ugrimov. The project was developed by civil engineer A.N. Zelingson (1867-1919), a well-known architect who worked in the neoclassical style with elements of Art Nouveau. These architectural styles were popular at that time in Moscow.

The purpose of the building is reflected in its decoration: bees are depicted in the stucco at the entrance, two girls can be seen sewing under the roof, and an owl crowns the building under the ridge.

The connection between bees and girls with hard work is obvious, but the appearance of the owl on the craft school raises questions. Local historians have noted that the owl is associated with the goddess Athena, who was not only a strategist and warrior but also the patroness of crafts.

Homer mentions that Athena made her own clothes and those of Hera, and also taught the Phaeacians the art of weaving. Hesiod states that Athena made a dress for Pandora.

The building is located deep within the block. Its main facade is designed in the neoclassical style and features an asymmetrical two-part composition using natural stone rustication, pilasters, and reliefs. The left part of the facade is decorated with a flat risalit with a pediment, while the central part is adorned with a pediment with stucco decor. Throughout its history, the building has undergone renovations, but a room with a barrel vault has been preserved.

The building of Anastasia's Craft School on Plotnikov Lane is recognized as a cultural heritage site.

Continuing historical analogies, it is worth noting that the school building is located in a lane with "craft roots." The name Plotnikov Lane recalls the Plotnitskaya (Carpenter's) settlement of the 17th century that was located in this area.
