The amphitheater, conceived as a garden structure in the style of ancient entertainment buildings, was created in 1793 by the architect V. Brenna. On the right bank of the Slavyanka River, Brenna placed the Stone Amphitheater for spectators, while on the left bank, the Green Amphitheater, consisting of earthen terraces and stairs with green wings for performances. In the center of the stone bench on the pedestal was installed a marble statue of Ceres.

In 1865, a portrait bust of Tsarevich Nikolai Alexandrovich, who passed away early, appeared on the pedestal, as well as two commemorative marble plaques with inscriptions: "To our beloved and unforgettable nephew and friend Nix" and "Remember him, O Lord, in Your Kingdom in memory of His Imperial Highness, the Heir Tsarevich Nikolai Alexandrovich." In the historical literature of the 19th century, the amphitheater became more widely known as the Nix Memorial.
