Many residents of the Alekseevsky district know that near Novoaekseevskaya Street and 1st Rizhsky Lane lies a unique architectural and historical complex from the late 19th century. It includes the buildings of the former orphanage of the Bahkrushin brothers and the Alekseevskaya pumping station, now the 'Vodopribor' factory. Part of the historical buildings of the pumping station can be seen through the old fence with cast-iron grilles along Novoaekseevskaya Street. These buildings were constructed in the late 19th century by architect M.K. Geppener during the reconstruction of the Mytishchi water supply system. The Alekseevskaya station provided the pumping of water from Mytishchi to the Krestovskie towers, located at the site of the current Krestovsky overpass.

Two versts from the station of the Yaroslavl railway in Mytishchi, a pumping station was built. Water was lifted from wells 15 fathoms deep into the machine building and supplied to the Alekseevsky reservoir located at the pumping station near the village of Alekseevskoye. From there, the water was pumped into water towers in two Krestovskie towers, from where it flowed by gravity into the city’s pipe network.

Next to the 'Vodopribor' factory, on the side of 1st Rizhsky Lane, there is a complex of buildings of the 'Orphanage named after the Bahkrushin brothers.' It was founded in 1896 as an orphanage for the poor and orphans of the Orthodox faith. According to the project by architect Karl Hippius, a children's town was built consisting of six houses for 20-25 people each, with the Church of the Life-Giving Trinity in the center.

Currently, the main buildings of the orphanage house the 'Mir' publishing house, while smaller structures are rented out and are in a semi-ruined state. In June 2012, one of the orphanage buildings burned down due to arson. The church was luckier: it has been handed over to the church, where services are held and restoration work is ongoing. The surviving frescoes depict the faces of saints, presumably painted by Vasnetsov.

The fate of this complex raises concerns among local residents, as the city authorities plan commercial development of the area. The 'Vodopribor' factory, which operated here for 120 years, has effectively ceased to exist. Production has been moved to Maloyaroslavets, and the land was sold at a reduced price. Shortly after, the company 'Etalon-Invest' purchased the enterprise, intending to build a residential complex with 2000 apartments on this site. This could lead to the demolition of historical buildings.

Residents are questioning why their opinions were not taken into account. Perhaps it would be better to create a public area with a museum and sports facilities, which the district lacks. The emergence of a residential complex will increase the burden on roads and social infrastructure.

There is still a chance to save these buildings. The Bahkrushin orphanage is a monument of regional architectural significance, and the buildings of the 'Vodopribor' factory are declared monuments. Their destruction must not be allowed. All concerned residents are urged to support the preservation of these sites.

Photos of the factory buildings taken in October 2012 were found on the Internet. It is hard to believe that these beautiful buildings could be demolished. That would be a real crime.

The building designed by Geppener as a reservoir for the Alekseevskaya pumping station was constructed between 1890 and 1893. After the modernization of the Mytishchi water supply system, a commemorative plaque made of Italian marble was installed on it, which has not survived to this day.
