One of the pre-revolutionary landmarks of Rostov-on-Don is the famous Alexandrovskaya Column, erected in 1894 in honor of Emperor Alexander the Second. It was solemnly opened on September 18, 1894, in a park that also received the name Alexandrovsky. The ceremony was attended by citizens, government representatives, and honored guests of Rostov.

The column, made of solid granite, rose 11 meters high and was crowned with the coat of arms of Russia, standing on a square pedestal. The area around the monument was enclosed with a chain fence. The project was developed by the famous Nakhichevan architect Nikolai Nikitich Durbakh, and the monument was crafted in the Rostov workshop of S. A. Tonitto.

With the arrival of Soviet power, the monument suffered significant damage: commemorative plaques and the coat of arms of the Russian Empire were removed. In 1994, restoration was carried out, and the column regained its original appearance, continuing to amaze with its beauty.
