Korobkov Mansion by Architect Kekushev

Фото 1
In the late 19th century, a significant event took place in the architectural life of Moscow's Zamoskvorechye. Architect Lev Kekushev, known for his works in the Art Nouveau style, transformed a mansion for the owner of a paper factory, Trifon Korobkov. This building became one of the bright examples of Kekushev's creativity and received high praise from contemporaries. The magazine "Builder" noted it as one of the best works of the architect in Moscow.

The mansion, belonging to Kekushev's early works, stands out for its unique architecture. The asymmetry of forms, the turret with a scale-like roof, and the facade adorned with caryatids give the building a special charm. These elements make it recognizable and attract the attention of both residents and guests of the capital.

An interesting feature of the mansion was its original color. Depending on the weather conditions and lighting, the building changed shades from lilac to lavender. During the restoration carried out in 2013 and 2015, specialists returned the building to its historical appearance. For this, the facade was cleaned of ten layers of paint, allowing the restoration of its original color palette.

Since the 1960s, the mansion has served diplomatic purposes. For several decades, the Embassy of Tanzania was located here. However, in 2013, the building was vacated, and since June 2022, it has housed the Embassy of the Republic of Ghana. Thus, the mansion continues its history, remaining an important part of Moscow's diplomatic life.

Located at 33 Pyatnitskaya Street, Building 1, this architectural masterpiece by Kekushev remains a significant part of the city's cultural heritage. It not only testifies to the architect's mastery but also reflects the rich history of Moscow, preserving the atmosphere of the past and continuing to inspire contemporaries.
