3rd Sokolnicheskoye School Named After A.S. Pushkin

Until 1879, the territory where the property now stands belonged to the Palace Department. Previously, Sokolnicheskoye Field was located here, formed in the second half of the 18th century on the site of princely hunting grounds. Public festivities, military reviews, and drills were held on this field. Later, the land came under the management of city authorities and began to be developed. By the end of the 19th century, several blocks had formed here, divided into eleven streets, each named Sokolnicheskaya with its own numbering.

In the late 1890s, there was a large property of the "Moscow Cycling Society" between 8th and 9th streets. At the initiative of the members of this society, a velodrome with stands for holding bicycle races was built here, along with several auxiliary pavilions.

On the corner of 4th and 9th Sokolnicheskaya streets stood three wooden residential houses rented by merchant P.A. Khloponin. One of these houses housed the 3rd Sokolnicheskoye Primary School named after A.S. Pushkin with male and female departments since 1899, opened in honor of the centenary of the poet's birth by the decision of the Moscow City Duma. The school's trustees were descendants of Alexander Sergeyevich, who also contributed part of the funds for its construction. The first floor of the two-story building housed teachers' apartments, while the second floor contained classrooms.

In 1909, as part of the public education reform, a decision was made to design and construct new school buildings. For the 3rd Sokolnicheskoye School, it was decided to build a three-story stone building with a semi-basement for sixteen classrooms based on a standard project developed by the School Commission. Architect V.N. Osnovsky created the standard project, while architect N.N. Blagoveshchensky developed the project specifically for the school, making minor changes to the layout of the entrances and the number of windows on the basement floor.

After the revolution, the school was transformed into a secondary general education school. From 1915 to 1921, future Hero of the Soviet Union pilot N.F. Gastello studied here, in memory of whom a marble memorial plaque was installed on the facade.

In 1941, the school building housed a fortification post for the remaining children in the city, and a communist battalion of the Sokolnicheskoye district of the 3rd Moscow Communist Rifle Division was formed to protect the city from German-fascist invaders. Another memorial plaque on the facade serves as a reminder of this.

In 1999, the school was returned the name of A.S. Pushkin, and another memorial plaque was opened.

Today, the building continues to function as an educational institution, housing the "Lomonosov School."
